I have three durocs, two are half way bald, and a third is losing hair, two are first litter sows, and one has not had a litter. Two have never been in contact. First sow lost hair in January, while in farrowing pen, second gilt started losing hair in late Feburary, while not in farrowing pen, the third sow is currently thinning, while in farrowing pen. Yet there is another hog – a spot that has shown no signs of losing hair and has been in contact with two of the three that are. Both the first sows litter and the current sows litter are fine, no hair loss. Had the vet investigate today and he is puzzled also. How can it effect three of four grown hogs and only the durocs, not of the same breed lines, but not the spot hog, and how can it not effect the babies. The vet and I agreeded that it is not ringworm, lice, mange or other mites. No major itching. Although all adult hogs were put on amoxicilin and with the hog who lost hair in January seems to be growing some back. We thought that it might be a vitiamin A issues, but once again that would effect all the hogs. I thought it might be the Natures Match Sow and Pig Complete that there were on this winter, yet once again the spot gilt was on it also, and she has all of her hair. So we are clueless, is there anyone out there with this issue?? Any recommendations??
I did not find the right solution from the internet.
